Hi Mom and Dad!
How have you guys been?! Are you getting so excited to go to Las Vegas? How do you think that BYU is going to do? Isn't it weird to think that the next email you get from me will be after you get home? Okay, I only get 30 minutes to email, so I'll try to go as fast as I can and tell you as much as possible. There is a clock counting down in the corner and it is making me really nervous.
First to answer the questions and respond to the letters you guys sent me. Zac, how did the rest of the play go? And what are you doing now that it is over? Holly- The mate that Sean made me actually wasn't that bad. But some of the people in my district are saying that in their calls it said not to drink the mate, so we'll see if I am allowed once I get to Argentina. Summer- Spanish is hard! But I am starting to get the hang of it. Well, at least a little. I like cursive and print the same! So if you want to practice your cursive on me that is totally fine!!! Mom- will you tell Murphy I said thanks? it was sweet of him to call. I am doing much better than I thought that I would! I love it here! I have seen a couple of people that I know, including Maria (she says hi). We are on the same floor of the residence hall, so we get to see each other fairly regularly. I would be totally fine if you wanted to post my talk. Would you actually mind printing it out and sending me a copy?
Okay, here we go. After you guys dropped me off on Wednesday, I was taken to a building and then a host sister took me and another new sister to get our room keys, name tags, and ID cards. It was cool to get my name tag, but we had to walk to a couple of different buildings and it was kind of confusing. then I had my picture taken for my id card. I have since learned that the ID card is to get me into meals, to do my laundry, and will let me access the stairs to get to my residence hall. So, it's pretty important. then they took me to my classroom, where i met my district. There are three elder companionship's, and two hermana companionship's. we are all going to Argentina, just different missions, elder black and elder mower, and hermana whitehead and hermana reed are going to buenos ares north. Elder streadbeck, elder devore, and hermana Habel are going to Neuquin (I know I spelled that wrong, sorry!). And Elder Proctor, Elder Washburn and myself are going to Bahia Blanca. Hermana Habel is my companion and I absolutely adore her. She is amazing, and we are getting along very very well. She has been called as our zone coordinating sister, so on Sunday she had some meetings to go to, so I was in a temporary three-some with the other Hermanas. I did not like it. I love the other hermanas, but it was too weird to be without Hemana Habel. After four days I already felt like I was missing my right hand.
I really do have a wonderful district. We have all gotten along very well and we learn well together. We have already become very close. The elders are great. They are so kind and respectful, they take our trays at every meal. We as hermanas are getting quite spoiled. The zone is also fantastic. For those of you who don't know, like me before I got here. A district is the class that you are with all day. We basically do everything together. There are four districts in a zone. And here at the MTC, a zone is also a branch. We have wonderful zone leaders who take every chance they get to make sure that we are doing okay. Our branch presidency is also pretty awesome. I already feel so loved by everyone here.
A little bit about the day to day. Its hard to say exactly what goes on because everyday is a little different but we basically do the same thing. At some point during the day we have an hour of personal study, an hour of companionship study, and an hour of language study. We also spend about 5 hours a day in the class room with a teacher. We have two different teachers, and we see them both every day (except Sunday and p day). Hermano Goodman and Hermano Harper. They are fantastic teachers and I am learning a lot. The Spanish is certainly the hardest for me, but it is coming along. Nothing worth having is given freely and I am more than happy to work so that I can be an effective teacher. we also have MDT time, which is time that we can use as we like to prepare lessons and do more study.
We also have an hour of gym time, which for me is only okay. I've been doing some running and riding the bikes. but, and you'll be so proud. I played volleyball yesterday. we decided to play as a district. And while I can't say that I had fun (in fact most of the time I was very, very anxious) I did okay. I didn't touch the ball much, but I made a couple good hits. IT is good to release some energy.
Okay, I have to go. I will try to write a better email next week. I am sorry that this one is lame. I will try to get a letter written today to make up for what I didn't get to say. The most important thing is that I am good. I am happy and I am in the place that the Lord wants me to be. I love you guys so much and I miss you. But I know that the Lord has a plan for me and that this is part of it.
Thank you for your letters. The letters are nice because I only have 30 minutes to be on the computer on P-day and I can read letters whenever they come. Dear Elder is a great source. Mom, thank you for the package. The oreos were a great surprise. I'll get you a letter today, there are a couple of things that I should have brought, but I didn't. Just when I thought I had everything. I love you. Please stay safe. The Church is true. God loves you.
Love, love LOVE
Hermana Corinne Orton
PS Don't forget to SMILE! It can make all the difference!
