January 9, 2012- Letter

Dear Mom and Dad,
Wow this was a crazy week! But crazy in the good kind of way. So you remember how I had gotten bronchitis (don´t worry, I am a million times better now. I still cough a little, but really that is about the only thing that is bothering me), well just as I was about on the mend, Hermana Sleight got sick. And then, just as she was getting better Hermana Pixton got sick. I think I had about the worst of it, the other hermanas didnt´ even have to go to the doctor! But we are all doing a lot better now.
Marta, our wonderful Marta fell last week, and has been in quite some pain ever since. She couldn´t even come to church. She has barely been able to walk! Very very slowly she has been getting better, and tomorrow we are going to see her to see if she is doing better.

Graciela and Carlos are doing well. Those two just kill me. They are so funny. The best part is that they dont´think that they are funny. They think that their life is just so normal. To paraphrase, because seriously, to tell you thier whole story would take at least an hour to type, they have been wanting to move, so they can be in a house where their nephew can´t bother them. (which really, can you blame them?), the nephew that ran away from jail that is. So they starting building their own house out of material that they found in various places, and I was starting to get really worried about what would soon be thier house. But then, for some reason I do NOT understand, (Graciela is hard for native speakers to understand), they were told to move into a house that was already constructed. Which is great! So this last week, they got moved and are finally feeling more safe and peaceful. So that is a nice change.
We did have trasnfers this week. Which was a sad  and a happy thing. Happy because Hermana Israelsen and I are still companions and still in Puerto!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really really really REALLY happy about that. This is a  really special ward, a I was praying for at least one more transfer here. But sad becaue Hermana Pixton and Hermana Sleight left. They are now in a city named Dorrego. And we didn´t get more hermanas here. It is just the two of us. I am feeling mildly overwhelmed about that because our ward limits are HUGE! I could put Atlantida and SOA in the boundaries of Puerto, and now there are just two of us.
However, I am really excited to work here. We have a lot of ideas that we can do to improve our teaching, and the things we can do to help our beloved ward. Jose, one of our ward missionaries leaves on his mission this week. He is going to Rosario, Argentina. He is going to do so good! He bore his testimony yesterday in church, and he started me off crying. Then the Hermanas bore their testimonies, and I cried harder. Then Franco and Marco bore their testimonies (they leave in two weeks) and I cried even harder. And then I had to play the piano for the closing hymn. Needless to say I did not play very well, I could hardly see the notes. How embarrassing. But I suppose comforting at the same time to know that some things never change. Looks like I´m still a weeper.
I also taught Sunday School yesterday. I still get super nervous when I teach classes. All of you who were in my Gospel Principles class know what I mean. If I can sit down when I teach, there isn´t a problem, I don´t know what it is about standing up and giving a class that makes me so nervous. Ugh. But I think it went well. The really cool part of this story is that they asked me to give the class two minutes before we started. I could never havbe dont that at the beginning of my mission. I would have died, literally, if someone had asked. But I think that the class went okay. It was really cool to feel like the Lord really has helped me with my language skills, at least well enough to be able to give a class when the need arises. One of those cool tender mercies.
Yesterday after church we were taking bunch of pictures because the hermanas and Jose were leaving, we were also writing in peoples contact journals, so Hna Israelsen had her stickers out, and the boys saw the one that looked like little nametags that say Future Missionary. So we gave them all placas for the day. And took pictures of all of us with our placas.
Also, right before the hermanas left, we made pancakes, since Hna Israelsen got maple for christmas, so there is a picture of me cooking pancakes.
And a couple of pictures from when we were at the bus station saying goodbye. It was very sad, but you would have been proud. I didn´t cry like a baby. I just cried normal. It was so sad to say goodbye, but I know that they are going to do so well!!!!
And, one from today. We went back to the same park as yesterday, and we had a picnic! It was great! I love Hna Israelsen!!!!!
There is also a picture that I included for Kami´s enjoyment (and for everyone else). She knows which one is for her.
Zac, congrats on the play! What play is it, and what part do you have? Are you having a good time with rehersals? When do you show?
Holly, How is Spring cheer going? Is is a lot more than fall cheer? Which one do you like more? How is dance? Basically, how are you?!!?!?! How is being the oldest sister at home?
Summer, How are all of your preparations going for DC? I am so jealous that you are going to go to DC before I will have made it there! Not fair! When are you going again? Also, why am I in the boring club?!?!
Mom, How are you doing health wise? Did you have you doctors appoinment? I got four of the five christmas packages. At least you said you sent five. Up till now I have gotten four. I am feeling much better, and my burns are completely healed, I just have a little scar on one finger.
Enjoy the cold weather, and know that I am jealous. Right now it is almost 100 degrees. With humidity. Kill me now. Just kill me now. Except not really. Just kill the heat and the humidity. All of you who said that after a while you don´t notice it anymore lied to me!!! That being said, I love it here, and I am so happy for the chance to have 6 more weeks to work here!!!!
I love you!!!
Corinne
