Cristian got baptized!!!! It was really quite amazing! He is doing so well! When we were talking about what he wanted the talks to be on, and what hymns he wanted, he said that he wanted one of the talks to be about family, because he knew that his mom would be there, and he wanted her to hear how important families are to the church and that families can be eternal. He also knew that his sons would be there, and he wanted them to hear the same things!!! He didn´t care what the other talk was on, so there was also a talk on the importance of having callings, taking the sacrament every week, etc. He also said that he didn´t know the hymns very well, but he wanted "happy" songs, so we went through the hymn book suggesting, and singing parts of songs until he had heard two that he wanted. They ended up being "Count your many blessings" and "The Lord is my light"
Everything went so well, and we actually had a good turn out of members too! It was so awesome. He really was ready to take this step in his life, he is going to be such a great priesthood holder. That's right, on Sunday he will receive the priesthood!!! How wonderful is that? SAO is going to have another priesthood holder! Finally. We need priesthood so badly here. On average we have 2 that have the Melchizedek priesthood, one priest, and one or two teachers. It is so nice to know that there is going to be one more priesthood holder here!
And on Saturday Norma, Roberta, and Cristian all received the Holy Ghost! It was so so cool. And, I understood what was being said in the blessings! It was super cool! And Cristian's sons were there when he received the Holy Ghost. We are going to start teaching them this week. We are planning their baptisms for the end of this month. They still don´t know we´re planning it...but that's okay! They´ll know soon enough.
The rest of the week really wasn´t that exciting. We didn´t have much success finding new investigators, and the couple that we did find aren´t progressing much. The major part of our time this week will be dedicated to finding new people to teach. Hopefully we will be as successful as we want to be. However, we do still have people to teach, and when we started we had nobody. So we are confidant that we will be able to find more people who are prepared and who are ready to accept the gospel.
After Cristian´s baptism, we went over to his house to have an asado to celebrate! I think I´ve written about asado before. We don´t eat alot of meat here (really a little bummer, because everyone before my mission was talking about all the beef I was going to eat, and it is really really good, we just don´t get to eat it that much), so when people invite us over for an asado, it is really exciting. Asado is Argentine BBQ, minus the sauce (also a shame, I really miss strong flavors). However, the meat is excelent, and there is a lot a lot of it. So we were really excited when he invited us over. So quickly after his baptism, he went home to start cooking, and we clean the church up. Then we went to his house and ate a really good dinner. But I also really hope that no one invites us over to eat asado for dinner anymore. It was really hard to sleep after eating all that food. Because asado isn´t just beef, its chicken, chorizo, two or three salads, rice with mayo (not my favorite) and bread. A lot of bread. However, it was really good and a nice way to end the day. And, we got to help cook a little bit. YES!!! Okay, I know the pictures look posed, and thats because they are, but really, we did help cook. And not just with the salads.
We also had a fun surprise this morning. Hermana Salas left our room this morning, and came running back in, jumped in bed, and pulled the covers over her head. I asked what was wrong, and she said that there was a giant butterfly, could I please open a window and help it to escape? Well that wasn´t a problem, I don´t have a fear of butterlies like she does (okay, she only has a fear of big ones, but still, they are butterflies, I don´t get it). So I went to go open a window, and something really really giant was flying around our apartment. REALLY big. So I ran back to our bedroom, jummped in my bed, pulled my covers over my head, and told her that there was a BIRD flying around our apartment. I hid for a couple of minutes, and then went to be brave and open a window. That is when I realized that I was mistaken. It was not a bird. Oh no, a bird would have been easy. It was a BAT!!! That is right. There was a bat flying around out apartment. All night. And we didn´t know. Talk about one of the scariest things ever. Spiders I can handle. Beeltes. Other gross bugs. Yes. Not a problem. Frogs, lizards, even small snakes. But a bat? No thank you!!! So I re-ran back to our bedroom, jummped back into my bed, and hid under my covers. When she learned it was a bat, Hermana Salas was less than pleased. We then called our district leader to ask if he had any advice, and for some reason he found the situation ridiculously funny, but was less than helpful. We then called Cristian, the only other person we knew who was awake at630, 700 in the morning. He was also not very helpful. We then tried to get our neighbor to help, but the husband was also still sleeping. So we stood there, for a good 15 minutes, talking about the best thing to do (Hermana Salas wanted to kill it, and I was NOT okay with that). Finally, our nieghbor came over and helped us, and even though she was just as scared as us, she is a mom. And I am convinced that while moms might be frightened, if they really have to do something they can do it. So she helped us remove the bat, who was then sort of sleeping and hanging all creepy like on the wall. As it was then 7:30 (yes this really was the first hour of our day), we decided to eat breakfast, and skip the exercise this morning. Oh the things I never thought I´d go through as a missionary....
But other than that things are pretty good. The last two pictures are of this morning, Hermana Salas and I= fearless bat hunters, and the bat. In all it´s yucky glory. BLECH!!!
Haha. Hopefully this week is better where the animals are concerned. But the goodnews is that in SAO I have seen far fewer dead animals than I did in Punta Alta. Score!
I love you, I hope that you have a great week, that the cars all get fixed and that they don´t get broken again! I love you so much! And Holly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON FRIDAY!!! Your going to be 15! How cool is that?! Do something awesome, okay? I love you!
